Ever since the release of the Model T, cars have become the favourite choice for personal transportation of people today. Throughout the decades, various innovations in technology have complemented the car from high end cars like thef-typejaguar to family friendly cars, every single car is evolving. The following are five important innovations used in cars today.

GPS

GPS, short for global positioning system, has improved driving due to people knowing their exits on highways ahead of time with lane guidance. Additionally, GPS reduce the hassle of reading maps. However, satellite reception is important to use GPS devices. Thus, areas with high winds and dangerous storms can prevent GPS devices from communicating with satellites. Not to mention, GPS devices can be a driving hazard sometimes.

Satellite Radio

Today, there is standard and high-definition (HD) radio in the car. However, there is a growing trend in the use of satellite radio, especially the US, Canada and Europe. In the United States, it is a radio based on subscription that can include advertisement-free stations. Satellite radio allows users to listen to a variety of programmes based on interest rather than limiting themselves to terrestrial radio. Additionally, satellite radio is integral in the daily lives of subscribers whether on their daily commute or a road trip. However, severe storms can interfere with satellite radio antennas.

Alarm Systems

Alarm systems have been around for decades. However, innovation has improved car security systems. Sensors have improved to detect unwanted entry into a vehicle. However, window-related sensors are still being improved. Additionally, proximity sensors can go off without any damage to a vehicle because of high sensitivity settings, which can be changed. Coupled with an alarm system is the remote that can include key-less entry and remote engine start buttons. A LCD remote can show a car owner where a potential area of the vehicle is being tampered with.

Rear-View Camera

Some cars have rear-view cameras pre-installed. Most car owners will purchase an after-market unit. The camera is enabled when a car is in reverse mode. A screen is required in the car to view the video feed. This camera system aids in the reduction of accidental death and injury to children and pets because blind spots are noticeable, especially at home. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, approximately 300 people die annually due to a car reversing. Half of those people are children under the age of five. A rear-view camera is not a replacement for a rear-view mirror while driving on the road, even though some cars have a rear-view camera in place of rear-view mirrors. While backing up, it is important to look around because the camera has a limited view.

Alternative Energy Applications

Many cars still use gasoline as the main source of energy. As an umbrella term, alternative energy refers to environment-friendly technology in cars. With the rise of green technology, cars, such as hybrids, use batteries as an alternative source of energy. Additionally, there are cars in development purely run by electricity or ionic reactions without gasoline.
