On the 10th of May 2012 Carrol Shelby died in Dallas at the ripe age on 89, although the official causes weren’t given right at the start his official Facebook page seemed to say he was admitted suffering from pneumonia. Although he was buried two months after his death as his second wife and three children disputed over his burial rights, now in early 2013 he is being remembered in the true fashion he would have loved to see with his own eyes.
The Us sports race car manufacturer got many tributes at his passing, motorauthority.com quoted: “If you don’t know who Carrol Shelby is, you might as well hang up your car enthusiast credentials right now, because they are no longer valid”. He will never be forgotten as he is the man who gave the name to the famous Shelby Cobra. But now a group known as the “Friends of Carrol Shelby” that comprises the limes of Ford and other companies has decided to make a spruced up version of the Shelby GT500 and has given it the name of Shelby GT 500 Cobra.
This new version which was unveiled at the end of 2012 will turn use a new trim and larger wheel width to make the most of the 850HP revamped 4.0L supercharger engine made by ford that you can usually find in the normal Shelby GT500. The larger wheels will allow the trim to be altered in order for the car to resemble more of the original racing machines that the late Mr. Shelby raced in himself.
The upgraded V8 engine increased the horsepower from 662 to 850 and the larger wheels allowed the extra torque to be converted to power on the tarmac. The actual 50th anniversary edition that was designed as a memorial to Carrol Shelby, actually sold at action for a staggering $200,000 dollars not bad for a one of a kind. Recently on an episode of Ignition, an American TV the regular Shelby GT500 was pushed to nearly 200 MPH so just imagine what it can do with a revamped engine. Check the video out here:

Not a bad tribute for just one man!
